The video above was just after the mouth was opened and their is a low of dark tea coloured water exiting the lakes system.

  • Summer is almost here!! Our weather is warm and sunny, and the beaches are looking fantastic.
  • Accommodation is plentiful and varied, from luxury houses, to serviced motel or apartment rooms, units, cabins, onsite vans and of course many caravan parks.
  • Lakes are calm and perfect for water sports, fishing , a stay on a houseboat or just a pleasant picnic at one of the many jetty areas.
  • Betka Beach ( listed in the Herald-Sun  as one of the 5 best beaches for children in Victoria) has a new toilet block and is clean and beautiful, with lots of shallow water for families to enjoy. Breakfast at Betka is an unforgettable experience. Fantastic new walking tracks go all the way to Secret  Beach , with timber walkways and lookouts along the way.
  • There are several coffee shops and a couple of excellent places to dine out, and all local businesses are on full steam ahead for the coming busy months.
  • Our local IGA  and FoodWorks stores are committed to offering national specials  and full shelves of  stock, and the butcher continues to offer wonderful cuts and variety of meats and seafood.
  • Pickets (homewares and clothing) has new and exciting stock, always unusual, and always fabulous for that one-of gift, and the Surf Shack has it’s usual array of the latest in surf chic, with lots of winter hats and hoodies.
  • The fishing has been fantastic, with lots of bream, taylor and flathead caught in the lakes, and salmon  caught in the ocean close to Mallacoota. Mulloway ( or Jewfish) have also been caught recently.
  • Surfers have had some great waves at Bastion and Davis Creek beaches, and often we are seeing dolphins enjoying the waves alongside the surfers.
  • Our  Arts and radio building has new and exciting displays , changing constantly and showcasing our local talent in many different media.
  • Walking and bike tracks continue to be extended and improved , and you could explore a different one of these every day for a fortnight and not complete them all.
  • This is a great time to do those fantastic bush walking trails, all of which are set out in our latest Mallacoota “Enjoyable Activities” book, available at the tourist shed and shops.
